Drone manufacturer DJI has launched a new compact drone, the Matrice 30, aimed at professional users. The M30 can be described as a cross between the DJI M300 RTK and the Mavic 2 Enterprise, providing a range of features suitable for industrial inspections and search and rescue missions.
The M30 is much smaller and lighter than the popular M300 RTK, making it easier to transport and deploy in challenging weather conditions. The drone can be folded into a compact package for convenient storage and transportation. Weighing just 3.7 kg and with an IP55-rating, the drone can be operated in rain and wind speeds of up to 15 m/s. The drone’s obstacle detection sensors ensure safe operation in all directions, and various accessories can be mounted on the top of the drone.
The M30’s gimbal includes a wide-angle camera, a zoom camera, a laser rangefinder, and a thermal imaging camera in the case of the M30T. The camera module offers similar performance to the Zenmuse H20(T), with a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 28-megapixel zoom camera with 16x optical zoom and up to 200x digital zoom, and a laser rangefinder with a range of 3-1200 meters. The thermal imaging camera provides radiometric images at 640×512 pixels. The images are transmitted using the new Ocusync 3 Enterprise protocol, and LTE connectivity is available in some countries for remote communication with the drone. The drone is powered by two TB30 batteries, providing up to 41 minutes of flight time, and the batteries are equipped with a built-in heating element for use in cold conditions.
The M30 is controlled using DJI’s new RC Plus Controller, featuring a large 7″ display and a range of up to 15 km. The controller is rain-resistant, and the new DJI Pilot 2 app is installed on the controller, featuring a preflight check and optimized screens to minimize distractions for the pilot. The drone is also compatible with DJI’s FlightHub 2 flight management system, enabling multiple users to work together during a drone flight. Remote viewing and note-taking during live missions are possible, and GPS location sharing is available.
In conclusion, the DJI Matrice 30 is a compact and powerful drone designed for professional users in challenging conditions. With its compact size, advanced features, and intelligent flight management capabilities, the M30 is a versatile solution for a range of industrial and search and rescue applications.
